I-95 runs the length of eastern North Carolina, and it is the main artery for vehicles moving between the Northeast and Florida. Carriers are on that road every day of the year, in both directions. I-85 carries a second heavy stream through Charlotte, Greensboro, and Durham on the way between Atlanta and Richmond, and I-40 crosses the state east to west from Wilmington through Raleigh to Asheville.
For you, that means one of the better carrier markets in the country. When trucks are already passing through, a driver can add your vehicle without deviating from a planned route, which typically means shorter pickup windows and more competitive pricing than states carriers have to make a special trip for.
Long hauls cost more overall but less per mile. Lanes along I-95, I-85, and I-40 usually price better than routes that pull carriers away from them.
Charlotte and the Triangle price well. The Outer Banks, the far west, and small towns off the interstates cost more, because the carrier is making a detour.
Larger trucks and SUVs take more space on the trailer. Vehicles that don't run need special loading equipment.
Open transport carries most vehicles and costs less. Enclosed is worth considering for classic, exotic, race, or high-value cars.
Snowbird traffic peaks southbound in autumn and northbound in spring, tightening capacity on I-95. Hurricane season can disrupt coastal routes.
A flexible pickup window gives carriers more options, which usually means a better price than a fixed date.
Charlotte is the largest metro in the Carolinas and the easiest part of the state for carriers to reach. It sits at the crossing of I-85 and I-77, so trucks moving between Atlanta and the Northeast pass straight through. Pickup windows here are typically the shortest in the state.
We arrange pickup and delivery throughout the Charlotte area and the wider I-85 corridor:
Pickup can usually be arranged from a home, dealership, business, or auction lot.
The Triangle is one of the fastest-growing metros in the country, and a large share of our inbound North Carolina volume ends here. Most of it comes from the Northeast and the Midwest, from people relocating for work at RTP employers or for one of the universities.
Newer subdivisions in Cary, Apex, and Holly Springs often have narrow streets and tight cul-de-sacs. A full-size carrier is roughly 75 feet long, so the driver may ask to meet at a nearby shopping center or school lot rather than attempt the street.
Wilmington, Jacksonville, New Bern, and Greenville are straightforward. The barrier islands are not, and it is worth understanding why before you book.
NC-12 is the only road down the Outer Banks. It is a two-lane highway that runs along the dunes, and it closes for overwash and storm damage several times a year. Ocracoke has no road access at all and can only be reached by ferry. Full-size transport trucks are not practical on either.
For Outer Banks deliveries we normally arrange a meeting point on the mainland — typically around Elizabeth City, Manteo, or Nags Head depending on your destination — and you drive the last stretch yourself. Tell us your exact address when you request a quote and we will confirm what's possible before you commit to anything.
Expect longer pickup windows in July and August, when seasonal traffic on the bridges and NC-12 slows everything down.
Asheville itself is fine — I-26 and I-40 both serve it, and carriers run the corridor regularly. Beyond it, the mountains get harder. Boone, Blowing Rock, Banner Elk, Cherokee, and the smaller communities off the Blue Ridge Parkway involve steep grades, tight switchbacks, and roads a 75-foot carrier cannot safely turn on.
Deliveries to those areas usually work as a nearby meeting point rather than a driveway. Expect a modest premium and a wider pickup window, since the carrier is coming off the interstate to reach you. Winter storms occasionally close mountain passes and can push transit by a day or two between December and February.
It can, though less often than people expect. Atlantic hurricane season runs from June through November, with the highest risk to North Carolina in late August and September. When a storm approaches, carriers stop running the coastal routes until roads reopen and it's safe, which delays pickup and delivery in the affected area.
This is a delay, not a cancellation. If a storm affects your shipment, we and your assigned carrier will contact you with a revised window. If you're shipping to or from the coast in September, building a few days of flexibility into your dates is worth doing.
We ship between North Carolina and anywhere in the continental United States. Our most common North Carolina lanes, with links to each destination state:
Heavily traveled routes generally have better carrier availability than remote pairings. The North Carolina to Florida lane is among the busiest in the country, particularly southbound in autumn.
Transit time depends mostly on distance. Rough estimates once your vehicle is picked up:
These are transit estimates after pickup, not guaranteed delivery dates. The spread within each band comes down mostly to whether a carrier is already running your lane. A truck with space on a route it was taking anyway moves quickly; a route that has to be built around your vehicle takes longer. Traffic, weather, other stops on the carrier's route, and road conditions all affect timing.
Charlotte and the Triangle draw heavy in-migration from the Northeast. Shipping avoids adding several hundred miles to your vehicle.
Fort Bragg, Camp Lejeune, Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, and MCAS Cherry Point make North Carolina one of the busiest PCS states in the country.
UNC Chapel Hill, Duke, NC State, Wake Forest, App State, and East Carolina move vehicles in and out each semester.
We arrange pickup from dealerships, private sellers, and auction lots including Copart and IAA.
Seasonal residents ship south in autumn and back in spring, both from North Carolina and through it.
The Charlotte and Mooresville motorsports cluster generates steady demand for enclosed transport of race and high-value vehicles.
Open transport is usually the least expensive option for a standard vehicle. Flexible pickup dates and a location near a major route such as I-95, I-85, or I-40 also improve carrier availability and pricing.
We can get your vehicle to the coast, but full-size transport trucks are not practical on NC-12 and cannot reach Ocracoke, which is ferry access only. We normally arrange a mainland meeting point and you drive the last stretch. Tell us your exact address when you request a quote.
Usually yes. If your street can't safely accommodate a full-size car carrier, the driver arranges an accessible meeting point nearby. This is common in newer subdivisions and in mountain communities.
In most cases yes. Tell us when you request your quote, because the carrier may need a winch or additional equipment to load it, which affects the price.
Carrier policies vary. Ask before placing anything inside, and never use the vehicle in place of a household goods shipment. Items left inside are generally not covered by the carrier's insurance.
Carriers are required to carry cargo insurance. You can review your assigned carrier's insurance details and the vehicle inspection report before transport begins.
One to two weeks before your preferred pickup date usually gives the most flexibility, though shipments can often be arranged on shorter notice.
Nothing is due when you book. The HippoHaul fee is charged once a carrier is assigned, and the carrier fee is paid directly to the driver on delivery.
